The U.S. SAR Task Force consists of specialists from all walks of life who have a common interest in helping others in need.
We limit new admissions to the number of people that we can process and train effectively. We always want to be sure to give the new recruits the personal attention that they require. We do discourage candidates who only have a “mild” interest in this type of work or who have very unrealistic expectations.
While no special skills are necessary (you will be trained for your position) in order to become part of the Task Force, due to the influx of applications, applicants with a history of public service experience and training will be given priority during the review process. We still encourage all to submit an application. In general for the application processes (and after acceptance), the following criteria must be met:
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have a valid drivers license.
- Must undergo a background check.
- Must serve a probationary period for a minimum of 6 months.
- Must successfully complete the Task Force Basic Search and Rescue Training Program.
- Must successfully complete the National Association for Search and Rescue SAR Tech III Training Program.
- Must successfully complete Basic First Aid certification.
- Must successfully complete Emergency Response to Terrorism Training Program.
- Must successfully complete Hazardous Materials Training Program.
